The photo is taken from the road leading to the Stone Yard. I was once told by a retired railway worker, who worked on this line that Brunel had a workshop near here.

BCC has a long history going back to 1847. Including Dr. W.G. Grace in the 1870's playing for them, this page however wasn't his finest hour!

Allotments

A good proportion of Bower Ashton is taken up by allotments, over 180 of them. There are waiting lists on all of the five areas.

Bower Ashton Allotments

Managed by the Hotwells and District Allotments Association, contact information via links below.

PS The 'B' in Bower Ashton has been erased on the map by one of the allotments, so someone made a guess as to the name and we are now known as 'Lower Ashton'.

High and Low Tide Times

Plimsoll Swing Bridge opened - external link to larger photo. When the Samuel Plimsoll swing bridge opens in the rush hour you should certainly add some time to get across the river.

Bridge swings are almost always near to the high tide time. BBC West Tide Times (next 6 days). Sea Mills is the closest to Bristol Docks.

There will be a small difference (a delay) before the high or low tides reach Bristol Docks.

Greville Smyth ParkWorth a Mention

  • FrOGS: Friends Of Greville Smyth Park

The photo is from near the main entrance on Ashton Road taken 5th November 2006.

Shown as Bedminster Park on this map from the c 1900 Somerset Archive Map, choose east from the original map.

  • Although Bower Ashton Terrace, is in Ashton Gate it deserves a mention too. Bower Ashton Terrace was probably built for railway workers and appears on the Victorian map.

The painting 'The Backs' by Landreth Leaper, shows a curious shaped once terraced house but now a unusual semi detatched house. The artist, Landreth Leaper has a good eye.
